Mark Barnsley victim of a strategic transfer

Mark Barnsley is an english anarchist militant from Sheffield imprisoned for over 5 years following the Pomona incident. During this incident, Mark, who went out with his 6 weeks-old daughter and a family friend, was attacked by a gang of 15 drunk students and got badly injured with a knife and some heavy glass. 5 students got injured as well and though even many prosecution witnesses -among them a couple of students- admitted Mark had not been threatening to them and that he was more a victim than an agressor in this incident, the Court sentenced him to 12 years imprisonment !! It is obvious that this incident corresponded for the British authorities to the best opportunity to get rid of an active militant and anarchic writer. The trial that was set up against him didn't insert some true facts and evidence proving he hadn't intended to injure anyone and that injuries were caused by students themselves because of their harassing behavior towards Mark. It is clear that the Court didn't judge the case according to the facts as they definitely proved his innocence but according to Mark's political tendencies and activism.

Mark has struggled from the beginning of the sentence he's serving now to get a new trial on fair basis but the policy of the penitentiary industry remains to isolate him from the outside world by restricting his mail, phone calls and visits, or even harassing those who bring a close support to him. The fact that Mark is far from being a passive prisoner serving his sentence registered him among the "difficult" convicts and victim of a conspiracy by the Full Sutton prison administration that persecuted him with unjustified complaints to worsen his case, he was transfered to Long Lartin prison in Worcestershire, a prison well-known for the inhumane treatment of prisoners.

This transfer corresponds to a strategy of isolation to prevent Mark from having contatcs with out- side and takes part more globally of the policy of scattering of "difficult convicts". Indeed, he's now pretty far from his "phisical" sympathizers what as a result will decrease the number of visits while this transfer will disturb substantially his mail contacts. Shortly, this transfer aims at silencing his supporters to make Mark pay the price of his political identity, i.e. the price of his humane identity, that is the price of his struggle for justice. His support cmmittee let us know that his personal belongings (as few as they can be) have stayed in Full Sutton and therefore that Mark has big difficulties to get on contact with outside (misses most of addresses, etc). You can help him by sending envelops, stamps or international post coupons or just to bring him a moral support at the same time as you will confuse the jail admini- stration which doesn't ex- pect such reactions to their policy of isolation !!!
